Abedin (Mercury)

Named after Zainul Abedin - Bangladeshi painter and printmaker (1914-1976).

Abedin is a crater on Mercury. The chains of smaller craters surrounding Abedin are secondary craters formed by ejecta from the initial impact. The northwestern section 's continuous ejecta blanket appears to have a lower reflectance than the rest of the material adjacent to the crater rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On Mercury they are named after deceased artists, musicians, painters, and authors who have made outstanding or fundamental contributions to their field and have been recognized as art historically significant figures for more than 50 years.
