Baade (Moon)

Named after Wilhelm Heinrich Walter Baade - American astronomer (1893-1960).

Baade is a lunar impact crater that is located near the southwest limb on the near side, to the southwest of the enormous Mare Orientale impact basin. The area to the east of this crater forms the junction. Both valleys radiate away from the impact basin to the north. The outer wall remains sharp-edged, with little appearance of erosion due to subsequent impacts. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
