Nilosyrtis Mensae (Mars)

This feature is named after an earlier feature.

Nilosyrtis Mensae is an area of Mars in the Casius quadrangle. Its name was adapted by the IAU in 1973. The surface is classified as fretted terrain. (wikipedia entry)

A mensa is a flat-topped prominence with cliff-like edges, i.e. a mesa. On Mars they are named after the nearest named albedo feature on the Schiaparelli or Antoniadi maps.
