Niepce (Moon)

Joseph-Nicéphore; French physicist, photographer (1765-1833). (Spelling changed from Niépce.)

Niepce is a crater on the far side. It lies in the high northern latitudes, just behind the north-northwestern limb. Less than a crater diameter to the north is the crater Merrill, and just to the west is Mezentsev. Farther to the south-southeast is Nöther. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
