Carnot (Moon)

Named after Nicolas-Léonard Sadi Carnot - French physicist (1796-1832).

Carnot is a large crater in the northern part 's far side. It intrudes into the southern rim of the huge walled plain Birkhoff. To the west-southwest is the crater Paraskevopoulos. The outer rim has a somewhat hexagonal form, particularly in the southern half. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
