Virchow (Moon)

Named after Rudolph Ludwig Karl Virchow - German doctor, pathologist (1821-1902).

Virchow is a small lunar impact crater on the northwestern interior floor of the prominent crater Neper. The latter formation lies near the eastern limb , along the southern edge of the Mare Marginis. Observation of this area is hindered due to foreshortening, as well as libration effects. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
