Vening Meinesz (Moon)

Named after Felix Andries Meinesz - Dutch geophysicist, geodesist (1887-1966).

Vening Meinesz is a lunar crater on the far side. The northern inner wall of this crater lies along the lunar equator. To the north of this formation is the larger crater Mandel'shtam, and slightly farther to the south is the larger Keeler. Dewar is located less than one crater diameter to the southeast. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
