Named after Emily Balch - American economist, Nobel laureate (1867-1961).

Balch is a crater on Venus at latitude 29.9, longitude 282.9 in Devana Chasma, Central Regio. This crater is one of the few examples of tectonically modified craters seen on Venus. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On Venus they are named after deceased women who have made outstanding or fundamental contributions to their field (if over 20 km). If smaller common female first names are used.
