Stebbins (Moon)

Named after Joel Stebbins - American astronomer (1878-1966).

Stebbins is a large lunar crater on the far side. It is located along the north-northeastern rim of the even larger crater Birkhoff, with about one-third laid across the interior of Birkhoff. To the north is the smaller Hippocrates, and to the west is Sommerfeld. This is a worn and eroded crater with smaller impacts along the rim edge and the interior. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
