Slocum (Moon)

Named after Frederick Slocum - American astronomer (1873-1944).

Slocum is a small lunar impact crater in the southeastern part of the Mare Smythii. It lies near the eastern limb , and from the Earth this section of the surface is viewed at a very oblique angle. This greatly limits the amount of detail that can be observed. In addition, libration in its orbit can cause this area to be completely hidden from Earth. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
