Mare Australe (Moon)

"Southern Sea"

Mare Australe is a lunar mare located in the southeastern hemisphere. It is 603 kilometers in diameter, overlapping the near and far sides. Smooth, dark volcanic basalt lines the bottom of the mare. The Australe basin was formed in the Pre-Nectarian epoch, while the mare material inside formed in the Upper Imbrian epoch. (wikipedia entry)

A mare is a "sea" or large circular plain. On the Moon they are named after latin terms describing weather and other abstract concepts.
