Legendre (Moon)

Named after Adrien Marie Legendre - French mathematician (1752-1833).

Legendre is a lunar impact crater that is located near the eastern limb. Just to the southwest is the crater Adams. To the northwest is Palitzsch and the prominent Petavius. The rim is worn and eroded, with many small craterlets along the rim and the sides of the outer wall. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
