Hevelius (Moon)

Named after Howelcke, Johann Hevelius - Polish astronomer (1611-1687).

The smaller but prominent crater Cavalerius is joined to the northern rim by low ridges. Only a low, eroded rim rises above the surface. The western wall is overlain by several small impacts. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
