Goldschmidt (Moon)

Named after Hermann Goldschmidt - French astronomer of German origin, discoverer of asteroid (21) Lutetia (1802-1866).

Goldschmidt is a large lunar crater of the variety commonly termed a walled plain. It lies in the northern part 's near side, and appears oval in shape due to foreshortening. The rim is actually circular, although the western rim is overlain by the prominent crater Anaxagoras. Nearly attached to the southeast rim is Barrow, and the two formations are separated by a rugged rise about 30 kilometers across. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
