Fersman (Moon)

Named after Aleksandr Yevgenyevich Fersman - Soviet geochemist (1883-1945).

Fersman is a large lunar impact crater. It lies to the east of the crater Poynting, and west-northwest of Weyl. To the south is the huge walled plain Hertzsprung. This is a worn crater with a low, outer rim. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
