Carrington (Moon)

Named after Richard Christopher Carrington - British astronomer (1826-1875).

Carrington is a lunar crater that is located just to the northeast of the crater Schumacher, in the northeastern part. It lies in a stretch of rough terra. To the northeast is Mercurius. The rim is featureless, with a slight protrusion at the northern end giving the formation a tear-drop shape. (wikipedia entry)

A crater is a circular depression likely created by an impact event. On the Moon they are named after deceased scientists, polar explorers, astronauts or cosmonauts.
